Brazilian talents nominated for 2024 Golden Boy award

Since 2003 Italian sport newspaper Tuttosport has established the Golden Boy award. The award is given to the best player in Europe under the age of 21 years old. Nominated for this year's prestigious prize are four Brazilian players. Savinho (Girona), Vitor Roque (Barcelona), Angelo (RC Strasbourg) and Andrey Santos (RC Strasbourg).

Savinho had a great season with La Liga surprise Girona FC ending third in the league. The Sao Mateus (Bra) born winger appeared in 37 of the 38 La Liga matches, starting 35, scoring 9 goals and assisting 10. Sávio made his debut for Brazil on March 23 this year against England (1-0 win) coming on as a substitute replacing Raphinha in the 78th minute.

Striker Vitor Roque joined Barcelona from Athletico Paranaense in January 2024. The striker made his debut on January 4 coming on as a substitute in an away game against Las Palmas. In the 78th minute he replaced Ferran Torres. Vitor Roque appeared in 14 La Liga games, starting 2 and scoring twice.

On loan from Chelsea, right winger Angelo appeared in 21 Ligue1 games for RC Strasbourg from France. Although the former Santos FC dribbler didn’t score a goal he managed to deliver 4 assists. Angelo was a starter 11 times coming on as a substitute in 10 matches. Angelo missed out on the last few months of the season due to a sports hernia.

Andrey Santos joined Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in the summer of 2023. In August of that year the central midfielder joined Nottingham Forest on loan. He made his only appearance in the Premier League in the away game against Liverpool substituting Mangala in the 83rd minute. In February 2024 Andrey Santos joined RC Strasbourg on loan. In France he managed to start in 9 Ligue1 matches, coming on as a substitute in 2, scoring 1 goal.

The winner of the Golden Boy 2024 award will be announced on Wednesday December 4. Among the participating newspapers are Tuttosport (Italy), Bild (Germany), l’Equipe (France), De Telegraaf (Netherlands), A Bola (Portugal), Ta Nea (Greece), The Times (United Kingdom), Blick (Switzerland), France Football (France), Mundo Deportivo (Spain), Marca (Spain) and Sport Express (Russia).
